d'Horrer

Letter of Philippe-Xavier d'Horrer to General ….

Podenice, 7 October 1798

General,

In sending you, in the original, the enclosed letter which I have just received, and in leaving to your wisdom the use to be made of the passage I have underlined — which relates a fact that is rather old, it is true, but which may nevertheless be unknown to the government — I venture to believe that I am fulfilling the obligation imposed on me both by the oath I swore to reveal anything that may come to my knowledge contrary to the service of His Imperial Majesty, and by the gratitude I owe His Majesty for the refuge I enjoy in His States, and my devotion to the cause of the Sovereign, feelings that will be extinguished only with my last breath,

I am with profound respect, General, your most humble and most obedient servant,

d'Horrer
